MOTORISTS’ CRIME HOTSPOT FEARS PROMPT ZRP ASSURANCE UNDER SMART TRAFFIC SYSTEM

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has assured motorists that crime hotspots at major road intersections will be monitored in real time under the new Smart Traffic Management System (STMS), following concerns over safety at night.
In a statement on Friday, police acknowledged concerns raised by motorists over perceived criminal activity at selected road junctions and intersections, particularly after dark.
The ZRP said the identified hotspots would be monitored through the system in real time, adding that any reported incidents would be addressed in line with its constitutional mandate.
The assurance comes as the rollout of smart traffic cameras attracts growing public attention, with motorists raising concerns about their safety at traffic-controlled intersections, particularly at night.
Police said the monitoring system would extend beyond traffic management, providing an additional layer of surveillance at locations identified as potential crime hotspots.
