HARARE — Zimbabwean financial executive Mary-Jean Moyo is flying high on the international financial stage after being appointed IFC Division Director responsible for Tanzania, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

The appointment places Moyo in a senior regional leadership position at the International Finance Corporation, the World Bank Group’s private-sector investment arm.

From Zimbabwean banking to the upper echelons of one of the world’s leading development finance institutions, Moyo has built an impressive career spanning commercial banking, central banking, private equity and international development finance.

Before taking up her new role, Moyo served as Chief of Staff to IFC Managing Director Makhtar Diop, working at the heart of the institution’s senior leadership.

Her career in finance began in Zimbabwe, where she worked in commercial banking before moving to Botswana, where she worked at the country’s central bank.

She later moved into private equity, serving as Vice President for Financial Institutions before joining IFC.

At IFC, Moyo has held several senior regional positions, gaining experience across multiple African and emerging markets and taking on increasingly senior responsibilities within the organisation.

Her latest appointment now gives her responsibility for six African markets — Tanzania, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe — covering economies with significant investment and private-sector development needs.

Moyo holds a Master’s degree in Banking and Finance from the University of Wales and a Bachelor’s degree in Economic History from the University of Zimbabwe.

Her rise from Zimbabwe’s banking sector to a senior leadership position within the World Bank Group is a striking example of a Zimbabwean professional making her mark on the global financial stage.

And now, from the boardrooms of international development finance to the investment opportunities of six African economies, Mary-Jean Moyo is flying the Zimbabwean flag at one of the world’s most influential institutions.
