Tobacco export revenues hit new milestone as marketing season nears close

Business

Zimbabwe's tobacco export revenues have surpassed projections for the current marketing season, buoyed by superior leaf quality and firm demand from traditional Asian and European markets.

Data released by the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board (TIMB) indicates a significant increase in average price per kilogram compared to the previous season. Smallholder farmers, who now account for the majority of national output, have expressed satisfaction with the improved payment systems and turnaround times at auction floors.

The agricultural sector remains one of the primary sources of foreign exchange for the economy, with value-addition initiatives currently underway to process more tobacco locally before export.
