An eight-month-old baby was mauled to death by a Rottweiler in a horrifying attack in Glenview, Harare, after the dog also turned on a two-year-old child and a 26-year-old woman.

The fatal attack happened at Riverside, Glenview 7, on Wednesday, September 9, according to the Zimbabwe Republic Police.

Police said the black male Rottweiler attacked the three victims, leaving the infant with severe head injuries.

The baby died at the scene.

The two-year-old child and the woman survived but sustained injuries in the attack.

Police have since arrested the dog’s owner, John Nyandoro (48), who is facing charges of culpable homicide and letting a vicious dog at large.

The case has once again raised concerns over the safety of residents living near potentially dangerous dogs, particularly in high-density communities where children often play close to homes.

The police urged dog owners to ensure their animals are securely restrained at all times.

The tragedy comes as a grim reminder of how quickly an unsecured dog can turn a normal day into a nightmare, with the youngest victim losing his life in the brutal attack.
