Lithium exports surge 20% as global demand continues to rise

Business

Zimbabwe's mining sector has recorded a 20% surge in lithium exports over the last quarter, according to new figures released by the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development. The increase is largely driven by the relentless global demand for battery minerals, fueled by the expanding electric vehicle (EV) industry.

Recent investments in local processing plants are beginning to bear fruit, allowing the country to export higher-grade concentrates rather than raw ore, significantly increasing revenue yields.

Economists predict that if current production levels are maintained, the mining sector will easily surpass its revenue targets for the fiscal year, providing much-needed foreign currency to the national treasury.
