Bulawayo-born adventurer Nkosilathi Mathe has reached South Africa after driving more than 24,000km from England — with just 3,000km left on his extraordinary journey home.

The 49-year-old set off from Birmingham on July 4 in his 2017 Nissan X-Trail, crossing Europe and Africa on an epic overland adventure that has taken him through numerous borders and tested him with difficult roads, vehicle breakdowns and border delays.

Now in South Africa, Mathe is entering the final leg of the journey.

He will travel through Botswana before crossing into Zimbabwe at Plumtree Border Post, then continue towards his hometown of Bulawayo.

But the mammoth drive is about more than simply getting home.

The social worker and truck driver is using the journey to raise funds for SOS Children’s Villages, turning his remarkable road trip into a charitable mission.

After more than 24,000km across two continents, the finish line is finally in sight.
